Politicians are just that, politicians, and any other scope of perception is unfortunate. They do not really care about the people, but use the people, hide behind the 'wishes of the people', or, the 'mandate of the people' to forward their own agenda. For them and like everybody else, it is a job, save for the fact performance reviews which come at most after 5 years are not effective, if at all. These reviews follow the law of "recency", hence the food hand outs, heavy campaigning and sloganeering as we go towards these performance reviews.
Otherwise they would have been Missionaries or Aid Workers if we expected them to have the 'people at heart', deriving no personal benefit, but championing the 'will' of the people, or 'the cause' of the struggle. Are they our Messiahs? Should we put our lives in their hands? Never!! Some would like to say, but the reality is Business and the Electorate can be held to ransom by Politicians as indeed history has shown.
Business should operate in an environment given by Politicians. They shape that environment. It is given that business scans and rescans the environment as the variables of the external environment change. They craft and rethink their strategies in an effort to align efforts to the prevailing, given environment. Not to be outwitted, Politicians do not like successful businesses lurking, for fear these will spoil the party. The solution...lets share the cake. Any failure calls for these strategies to be outlawed, the innovators thrown in jail. We encourage innovation and ingenuity, yet we populate jails and keep law enforcement agencies busy sniffing out those we deem to clever for our liking. That’s Politics for us... Zim.
If there were no free and fair elections, if at all, we would never know who governs us. They would not care a hoot, and we would not even see them in our dirty, rural areas, driving their latest SUVs in environments where the best the majority can afford is a bicycle. Most would value shoes and clean on special occasions like Christmas or Church on Sunday. Thank God for the Polls, but recency defeats the law of justice, for how can you vote for someone who, in the last five or so years, you never saw, and they never did anything significant to deserve the job back while they had time..... Because of food handouts and promises of heaven on earth like the building of a dam where there in no river and if there is no river they will promise to build it? Electorate!!!! Is there electoral justice after all? None in my view. Such are the performance based reviews........
There is a very thin line that balances these constituencies...Piliticians, Business and the Electorate...
